The Stock Market is Crashing and People are Concerned

June 5, 2018 in Uncategorized

The stock market is crashing and people are kindaaaa freaking out. On Monday, the Dow Jones industrial average plunged  more than 1,500 points at one point after sinking 665 points on Friday.

So, What is Going on?

Well there have been a variety of opinions given by experts. According to Money, we can ” Chalk this up to a case of , be careful what you wish for.” Meaning that investors should be rejoicing because they recently got the corporate and income tax cuts they’ve been hoping for. The economy is accelerating for real, with U.S. gross domestic product now expanding at a annual pace of more than 3% (after inflation) for three straight quarters — According to Money.

Others feel that “The market got phony again,” said Cramer, host of “Mad Money.” “It’s a shame. It can’t handle the volume and it can’t handle this level of selling.” Cramer said there are opportunities to buy when the market breaks. “And the market just broke again,” he said. “We haven’t seen it break in a long time.”

However, through all my research, most people are saying not to panic. “Market corrections of 10% or more are frequent occurrences, and the vast majority of stock corrections don’t turn into full-fledged bear markets, defined as losses of 20% or more.” “In other words, this is not the time to undo your entire investment strategy.”

Quick Overview:

  • What happened: An Amtrak passenger train derailed and is now dangling onto Interstate 5 in Pierce County, Washington.

  • The victims: Sheriff’s office says there are multiple fatalities; 77 people have been taken to local hospitals.

Multiple people were killed and 77 people have been taken to local hospitals after an Amtrak train derailed from a highway overpass in Washington State on Monday morning, according to local authorities. CHI Franciscan Health, a regional hospital network, said in a statement that 77 people were transported to hospitals in Pierce and Thurston counties. Four were classified “level red,” reflecting the most severe injuries.

At least one train car was left leaning against the overpass while another had flipped over on Interstate 5 below, according to photographs and local authorities. Firefighters were called around 7:30 a.m. local time. The derailment happened on a railroad overpass above Interstate 5, which is the major north-south route, he said.

“When we got to the scene it was obvious that there were some fatalities and there were a lot of injuries,” Detective Ed Troyer, a spokesman with the sheriff’s office in Pierce County, Wash., told local television reporters.

Cars and trucks on the highway were struck by the train, but fatalities were limited to those aboard, Detective Troyer said. The train, No. 501, was carrying about 78 passengers and five crew members, according to Amtrak.

Steve Crimmins, battalion chief with Lacey Fire District 3, said in a telephone interview that there were “multiple” critically injured patients. Medics were still evaluating the injured and transporting patients, he said.

Amtrak said the train, part of its Cascades route, was headed south from Seattle to Portland. The accident happened about 15 miles east of Olympia, Wash., and service was suspended south of Seattle.

Amtrak president: “We are deeply saddened by all that has happened”

Amtrak President and Co-CEO Richard Anderson said they will “do everything” in their power to support passengers, crew members and their families in today’s train derailment.

Read Anderson’s statement below:

From Amtrak President and co-CEO Richard Anderson regarding train 501:
“On behalf of everyone at Amtrak, we are deeply saddened by all that has happened today. We will do everything in our power to support our passengers and crew and their families.”

Salma Hayek, “Weinstein is my Monster Too”

December 15, 2017 in Uncategorized

photo cred: NY times

Wow. Actress Salma Hayek’s story, almost moved me to tears. Here is another woman’s confession of the torment and abuse that the infamous Harvey Weinstein put her through. She shared her story with the NY times. While it is lengthy, it was a good read.

To summarize, Harvey Weinstein used his success to take advantage of Selma while they were developing the movie “Frida“. He constantly asked her for inappropriate things and treated her as she was a sex object. Check out this excerpt:

[I had to say ]

“No to opening the door to him at all hours of the night, hotel after hotel, location after location, where he would show up unexpectedly, including one location where I was doing a movie he wasn’t even involved with.

No to me taking a shower with him.

No to letting him watch me take a shower.

No to letting him give me a massage.

No to letting a naked friend of his give me a massage.

No to letting him give me oral sex.

No to my getting naked with another woman.

No, no, no, no, no …

And with every refusal came Harvey’s Machiavellian rage.

The range of his persuasion tactics went from sweet-talking me to that one time when, in an attack of fury, he said the terrifying words, “I will kill you, don’t think I can’t.”

When he was finally convinced that I was not going to earn the movie the way he had expected, he told me he had offered my role and my script with my years of research to another actress.

In his eyes, I was not an artist. I wasn’t even a person. I was a thing: not a nobody, but a body.”

Please continue to read more of her story.

To any woman that has been a victim of sexual assualt, harrassment, etc. Know that you are not and will never be alone!

The Alleged Sexual predator Roy Moore was defeated… by less than 1%. Major backing by specific group of women.

December 15, 2017 in Uncategorized

Sooo…… we all know that Roy Moore has been in the hot seat during this Senate election in Alabama. Nine women came forward alleging sexual misconduct by the Alabama Senate candidate; four of them stating they were teenagers when he pursued them, and he was in his early 30’s. Here is a list of his accusers.

Anywho, given this information, there was a surprising number of white women that voted for him in spite of these findings. Take a look at these demographics.

This was so shocking to me! When deciding to choose whether to back someone who is moral, or to go with your “party”,… these Alabamian white women choose to go with their political party and turn their backs on morality.

In addition to these sexual assualt allegations, Moore has been removed from office not once…. but TWICE for ETHICS violations. I am truly baffled at where the disconnect is/was.

Can anyone explain this to me? What are your thoughts on this subject?

TIME chose to honor women who began the Sexual Harrassments callouts this year!

February 6, 2017 in Uncategorized

TIME chose “The Silence Breakers,” who are actress Ashley Judd, singer Taylor Swift, strawberry picker Isabel Pascual, Uber engineer Susan Fowler, and activist Adama Iwu. All women from different walks in life, with the similar problems; sexual harassment.

Actress Ashley Judd, was one of the first women to come forward accusing Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault. Since her story broke, over 50 others have shared their own accounts of alleged abuse by Weinstein!

Taylor Swift was groped by ex-radio host David Mueller during a pre-concert meet-and-greet in June 2013.  The hit singer got a very public victory this past August, when the jurors found that David Mueller assaulted and battered her. Swift hoped that her story would help inspire other women who have experienced similar treatment. Per Swift’s request, jurors awarded her $1 in damages — a sum her attorney, called “a single symbolic dollar, the value of which is immeasurable to all women in this situation.”

Adama Iwu, is a lobbyist for Visa who started a campaign to expose sexual harassment. In Iwu’s open letter, which was first published in the Los Angeles times, she wrote, “As women leaders in politics, in a state that postures itself as a leader in justice and equality, you might assume our experience has been different. It has not.” This letter was inspired by an incident when a man touched her inappropriately at a political event, and no one else called out the behavior.

Susan Fowler was an engineer for Uber. Her manager had sent her very inappropriate messages via their company chat. He was in an open relationship, and was having a hard time finding new partners. He said, ” He was trying to stay out of trouble at work, but he couldn’t help getting in trouble, because he was looking for women to have sex with.” It was clear that he was trying solicit sex . After screenshotting the conversation and reporting him to HR, surprisingly they did nothing! What is even more surprising is that Susan met more women who shared the same story at Uber! A lot of them dealing with the same manager she had reported! Read more of her story here.

Isabel Pascual, is a strawberry picker from Mexico, who spoke of being stalked after speaking out against the harassment she was experiencing on the job. She chose to use a pseudonym to protect her family.

Unfortunately, there are thousands, and probably millions of these types of stories out there that have went unheard. This was a welcomed change from Time’s usual “Person of the Year” spread.

What are your thoughts?
